Mammography

Breast cancer affects one in seven women. Early detection is critical to successful treatment. Having a mammogram is the most accurate method of breast cancer detection as it can show changes in the breast up to two years before a patient or physician can feel them.

The American College of Radiology recommends that all women have a baseline screening mammogram at the age of 35 and yearly screening mammograms beginning at age 40. Those with certain risk factors, such as a family history of breast cancer, should consult their healthcare provider to determine the best schedule for exams.

Mission Imaging Center is certified by the Mammography Quality Standard Act, American College of Radiology, and the State of California. All of our mammograms are administered by female technologists and results are reviewed by a radiologist specializing in breast imaging.

To ensure the most accurate results, Mission Imaging Center uses a computer aided reading system in addition to interpretations by radiologists. The computer system is capable of spotting abnormalities which are too small or subtle to be seen by the naked eye. As part of our breast imaging services, we also offer breast MRI, breast ultrasound and stereotactic biopsies.

Because mammography requires a brief compression of the breast, try not schedule your mammogram for the week before your period when breasts may be most tender.
